TOP SICILIAN WINES TO TASTE AT LEAST ONCE IN A LIFETIME

Among the many Italian excellences, Sicilian wine is certainly one of these.
In fact, Sicily is a land rich in cultural traditions and natural treasures and its precious elixir of long life, wine, is a cultural product and a millenary drink.
According to reliable sources wine production in Sicily dates back to at least 6000 years ago!
Many years of conquests, colonization and trades with the rest of the world have led to the birth and spread of viticultural techniques of which the Marsala (the first DOC wine of Italian wine history) is one of the most striking example: in 1773 the English merchant John Woodhouse landed by ship in the port of Marsala, starts to use the soleras method to the wine of that area.
At the end of the '50s the Sicilian Region created the social wineries, which collect small wine producers in cooperatives, and from the '70s new winemaking techniques led to the establishment of numerous wines with "DOC", a mark to control and preserve the origin of wines.
In 2011 the DOC was recognized for Sicilian wine and in 2020 the DOS for agri-food products previously under IGP, Doc and Dop marks.
