DISCOVER SIBENIK COUNTY AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE MOST UNCONTAMINATED NATURE
Croatia is a very large country with lots of wonderful cities to visit, and among others the county of Sibenik is definitely one of the most interesting places to explore.
The Dalmatian region stretches along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The whole coast is blessed with a fabulous turquoise sea that makes fall in love when visiting since the first time.
Its rich and fascinating history conquers and inspires adventure and the rhythm that emanates reveals its authentic heart.
Its inhabitants, in fact, have been able to preserve their traditions and protect an exceptional, almost uncontaminated natural heritage.
1. FROM THE SEA TO THE MOUNTAINS
Our imaginary tour starts with the Kornati Islands National Park and continues to the coast crossing the channel of Sant'Antonio, natural entrance to reach the beautiful town of Sibenik, and ends with Visovac and its waterfall.
Nice, isn’t it?
You can start your journey on a boat overlooking the Kornati islands.
Sailing slowly between them with an amazing vision thanks to the crystal clear sea and some curious and playful dolphins.
These islands paradises are known for their enchanting bays with white sand that reproduces a turquoise effect.
Another obligatory stop will be the picturesque ruins of an ancient Tureta; a short trek to reach the top where the view will be astonishing.
The silence and energy that emanate are soaked with the smell of the sea, the aromatic herbs and the sea breeze massaging the face. Everything seams a cure for the soul.
Here every first Sunday of July for the feast of Our Lady of Tarac “Gospa od Tarac", thousands of fishing boats gather in the bay to receive the traditional annual blessing, an exciting show.
The town of Šibenik
We continue by taking the canal of Sant'Antonio that from the open sea introduces you to the view of the town of Sibenik.
The four fortresses, and in particular that of San Nicola, greet us right at the mouth of the canal and their grandeur makes us understand immediately that we approach a city well protected and valued.
The highlight of the city is definitely the cathedral of San Giacomo which is reflected on the sea and welcomes all visitors arriving here by boat.
2. TYPICAL STREET FOOD
The old town is pedestrian, full of paths that lead to enchanted places. You will come across the ''Marenda', small restaurants that smell of ancient tasty traditional dishes.
The tasty dishes at reasonable prices are the focus of socializing with the friendly inhabitants of the city.
In the evening and after your dinner you can enjoy the illuminated city that become a very romantic promenade.
3. NATURE AND TREKKING
The Krka National Park
A visit to Krka National Park is one of the classic destinations for those who come to Croatia and therefore, in high season, could be very crowded.
The alternative is the “visit in reverse" so you can visit the park with a relaxing pace and you can enjoy the silence and take beautiful photos without encountering the classic confusion.
The program includes starting from the end of the route that is from the north of the park considering Roski slap the start and arriving at the waterfalls in the afternoon after lunch, when most of the visitors left.
Here in the early morning, after a nice walk and admire the beautiful “necklaces", the rapids of the river Krka, we go to discover the old mills still working. The owners of the mill prepare dishes based on cheese, olives, ham and homemade bread, accompanied by wine and juices, all native products.
You can have the first bath of the day in the barrels dug into the rock, with waterfall dropping right on your shoulders.
The island of Visovac
A little further downstream where the river creates a large space, a small island hosts a monastery and a museum.
Here the novice friars face the first experience in isolation and managing the gardens of the monastery.
The rest of the park will be discovered in the afternoon and the well-marked signs will guide us directly to the entrance of Skradin where a boat will wait for us to go up the river to the beautiful waterfalls.
This is just one of the many attractions you can experience in Croatia, an ideal destination for a holiday in the name of nature, sport, culture and above all of light-heartedness.
