City of Taormina

Taormina is a small town in the province of Messina, certainly one of the most popular international tourist centers of Sicily. Rich in natural resources, of extraordinary coasts and monuments of great historical and cultural value, Taormina welcomes tourists and visitors all year round.

The main monuments of the city are: the Greek Theatre; The Convent of San Domenico, which has now become a hotel; Palace of the Dukes of Santo Stefano, which dates back to Norman times; Porta Catania; Cathedral of St. Nicholas, dating back to ‘200; the Old Abbey, dating back to ‘300; Clock Tower, dating from the twelfth century and rebuilt in 1679; Covaja Palace. Among the churches we recall the Church of St. Joseph, built in the middle of the ‘600; the St. Catherine's Church, dating back to 600; the Capuchin Church, dating back to 400; the Church of San Pancrazio.

Between Schisò Cape and Cape Taormina, stretches the beach of Giardini Naxos, protected by the hills of Monte Tauro and on which stand Castelmola and Taormina. The southern stretch of coastline is graced by thick Mediterranean vegetation, crystal clear water and small rocks on the far shore. In the north, four kilometers from Taormina, lies the Bay of Mazzaro, divided by Capo Sant'Andrea from the bay of Isola Bella. Do not miss the boat trips to the caves. Another step forward is a visit to the small fishing village of Letojanni, where the tourist can choose between lidos or almost 2 miles of free shoreline. Nearby are the beaches of Lido Spisone and Mazzeo.
